I am a Lecturer in Communication at Deakin University, with a focus on journalism studies. In particular, my interest is in local news provision in rural, regional and remote parts of Australia. Currently, I am conducting a Post Doctoral research project that is exploring the news needs of people living in vulnerable parts of Australia’s rural information ecology. Adopting various research methods, such as mapping, interviews and surveys, I investigate the social, cultural, political, economic, geographic and digital dimensions of local news. This research, as well as my teaching, is informed by my 20 years' experience working in regional newsrooms. This blog is home to my actions, thoughts and observations in this field.
